Kakkayam is place Calicut Dist. - Kerala - SoUth India. Kakkayam dam sitates under the vally of western Gartz and heavy rainY malabar wild life santuary.
Kakkayam dam is constructed part of Kuttiyady Hydro elecrical power project & major irrigation project.
From Tamarassery town we have to travel half an hour to reach Kakkayam town. from there we have to obtain a pass to drive through the Forrest. Kakkayam is very famous place with regard to Naxel activitist Mr. Rajan murder issue in 1982. There is a half statue of Rajan in the town itself.
After obtaining the pass from kakakyam town we have to drive through the hill side hair pin roads . Roads are very narrow forrest roads, one side is huge vally . Very beautiful site scenes. Lot of small water falls from the hill towards road, Green atmosphere make any one very pleasant . rain time road can get blocked by falling huge trees.
Good season to travel is June to January , Since it is reserve forest lot of animals also you can see according to the season. Please take care about Leaches in the dam site.
From the kakkayam town one kilometer right side - Perambra Route , There is a very beautiful place is there It is like a Lake .
